The Benefits of Theatre Arts

We believe that the skills developed through learning to dance, act and sing will last a lifetime, and there are so many benefits!

Physical Health

We all know about the benefits to our physical health. How dance improves our strength, flexibility, agility, balance, posture, spatial awareness and endurance. It increases our energy and serotonin levels and boosts our cardiovascular health, blood circulation and oxygen flow. And, of course, we all know the difference it can make to our waistband... Singing is also shown to reduce blood pressure and boost immunity by promoting a healthy lymphatic system.

Mental Health

But there are also just as many benefits to our mental health. From something as simple as engaging creativity and motivation, boosting our confidence levels and learning how to overcome nerves and anxiety, to reducing stress and helping us to deal with depression. We know it can decrease the risk of dementia due to exercising our cognitive processes and increasing our mental capacity. And Dance and Music Therapy can be hugely beneficial to individuals with developmental disorders such as Autism and ADHD, having been seen to improve bodily awareness, motor coordination, imitation, social interaction and social skills. It also allows children with difficulties in speech and communication to express themselves.

Social Interaction

Finally, the social benefits can be just as important! Performing as part of a group promotes communal bonding and gives a feeling of togetherness. Harmonising in a vocal group brings a sense of achievement and fulfilment. We look forward to seeing our students each week, and it’s lovely to see the friendships that have formed inside and outside the studio. On a personal level, the friendships I made through dance as a child are the ones that have lasted. This is the family we choose - likeminded people who have a shared interest and a mutual love of theatre and the performing arts.
